Unlicenced driver leads to police chase

Early this morning at 1:28 a.m., a Greater Sudbury Police Service Officer saw a pick-up truck driving erratically in the area of the Kingsway and Lloyd Street. Before the Officer could turn around, the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed towards a pre-set spot check.
The pick-up truck proceeded to go around the spot check, taking the sidewalk, nearly striking a lamp post and the Officers. Greater Sudbury Police initiated a pursuit for approximately 2.5 kilometers before the pick-up truck fled towards intersections where there was a potential for public interaction.
Two Greater Sudbury Police cruisers were waiting at the intersection of Falconbridge Road and the Kingsway as the pickup truck approached the intersection. The pick-up truck immediately turned in to the Ambassador Hotel parking lot, where both the driver and passenger jumped out of the moving vehicle and fled on foot. The unoccupied pick-up truck ran into the South side of the Extendicare. No persons were injured.
Greater Sudbury Police Officers engaged in a foot pursuit and immediately captured the female passenger. After a brief search for the male driver, he was located in nearby dumpster and arrested.
The female passenger was released unconditionally and the male driver was charged with the following Criminal Code charges: Dangerous Driving and Flight from Police and the following charges under the Highway Traffic Act: Stunt Driving, Driving without a Licence, Driving without Insurance, Unauthorized Plates, Altered Plates and No Valid Licence Plate.
