Greater Sudbury Police Service receives 'Certificate of Achievement for Phase One of the i3 Consulting Model'

At the Police Services` Board Meeting of June 11th, the Police Service was proud to receive the Certificate of Achievement for Phase One of the i3 Consulting Model, which is offered through Public Services Health and Safety Association (PSHSA).

This Model provides the assistance of subject matter experts to work one-on-one with workplaces to develop and/or enhance their Health and Safety program. The consulting model i3consult takes an interactive approach at assessing an organization`s Health and Safety requirements as well as their challenges. It also helps organizations set short and long-term Health and Safety goals to ensure an effective Health and Safety program is in place and maintained.

Through the assistance of the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund, the Service hired a Health and Safety Coordinator intern, hired in July 2013 with the assistance of the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund to assist in completing the review and develop an effective Health and Safety program. Sudbury is one of the first police services in the province to have received this designation.

Mr. Lynn McCaig, Provincial Manager of Policing Services for the Public Services Health and Safety Association, was on hand at the Greater Sudbury Police Services Board meeting on June 11th to present the award. In his remarks, he stated that "the Greater Sudbury Police Service successfully completed Phase One, becoming the first Police Service in Ontario to undertake and reach this achievement. This milestone was recognized by Ontario Police Health and Safety Association as well".

At this time, the Greater Sudbury Police Service expects to complete Phase Two by the conclusion of the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Internship. Going forward, it will be the responsibility of the Joint Health and Safety Committee to continue to strive to achieve Phase Three, which will make the Greater Sudbury Police Service a Health and Safety leader within the Policing Sector.
