Attempt Theft and Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle

On the 21st of February 2015, at approximately 1:45pm, members of Greater Sudbury Police Services Uniform Division were called to attend a commercial business premise located on Foundry Road, at the east end of Lasalle Boulevard, with respect to a theft in progress complaint. An employee of the business had observed a suspicious vehicle traveling about the property. The employee confronted this vehicle and the lone male occupant and noted items in the vehicle which belonged to the business. The lone male occupant pleaded with the employee not to call police and began to replace the removed items. The employee contacted police then retreated to the entrance and blocked the driveway with a vehicle and secured the gate to the compound. At this point the suspect entered his vehicle and began driving towards the gate in an intimidating manner hoping the employee would vacate so he could make good his escape. The suspect now drove about the property seeking an alternate route however plowed his vehicle through some deep snow which became immobile. The suspect now fled on foot. With the assistance of the K-9 Unit and other Uniform Personnel, the suspect was tracked and eventually located at a residence and arrested. 

As a result a 46 year old male stands charged with several offences including:
• Attempt Theft
• Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
• Break and Enter
• Drive Suspended
• Breach of Probation
The accused has been held pending a bail hearing.
