Police seek suspect in weapons complaint on Charlotte Street in Chelmsford

Updated - December 17th, 2015 3;30pm: 

Police are still actively investigating this matter. Based on their current investigation officers are attempting to locate and arrest 18-year-old Austin Gurtin from the City of Greater Sudbury. 

Mr. Gurtin is being sought for the offence of:

Attempt Murder - Contrary to Sec. 239(1) (a.1) Criminal Code of Canada  

Mr. Gurtin is described as 5’7", 130 pounds, with a thin build and brown hair.

Updated - December 14th, 2015 3:00pm: There was a shooting that occurred this morning near a residence on Charlotte Ave, Chelmsford. A male was transported to Health Sciences North where he was treated for a gunshot wound and was released medically. Police are on scene gathering evidence and conducting interviews for this investigation. 

The people involved in this incident are well known to each other. There is no concern for public safety. St Charles Elementary School is no longer in lock-down. At this time, no one is in custody.

The Criminal Investigations Division is continuing this investigation.

Updated - December 14th, 2015 10:30am: The weapons call on Charlotte Street has concluded. The lock-down at St. Charles Elementary School has been lifted. Two adult males are in custody at this time. One of the two males is being treated for a gunshot wound to the leg. There is no risk to the public. Our Criminal Investigation Division is continuing with this investigation. Further updates will be provided later today.

Original: The Greater Sudbury Police Service would like to advise the public that there has been a Weapons Complaint in the area of Charlotte Avenue in Chelmsford.

Police are on scene and are asking the public to stay away from Edward Street, Main Street and William Street.

The public is advised that St. Charles Elementary School is on lock-down for precautionary purposes, however this incident is contained to one residence and there is no threat to the school.

Two males are in custody.

Police will provide updates as they become available.
