As part of our ongoing commitment to road and community safety, officers from Patrol Operations and Traffic Management Unit (TMU) officers patrolled over this past weekend looking for distracted drivers and monitoring the speed of motor vehicles. While looking for distracted drivers, officers from the TMU stopped two separate motorists for stunt driving.  On Saturday, the 9th of April, an officer stopped a female party operating a motor vehicle on Municipal Road 80 in the McCrea Heights area at 128 km/h in a 60 km/h zone.  On Sunday, 10th of April an officer stopped a male near Dominion Drive on Municipal Road 80, for driving at a speed of 136 km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone.  
Both drivers were charged with Stunt Driving, traveling more than 50 km/h over the speed limit.  Both drivers had their licences suspended and vehicle impounded for one week and face steep fines and demerit points if convicted.    Lastly, since April 4th Patrol officers and TMU stopped 10 motorists for the offence of driving while using their hand-held communications devices and each were issued a $490.00 ticket.  Upon conviction, those charged drivers will also receive 3 demerit points on their licences. 
Greater Sudbury Police Service again reminds motorists to use their very best judgement when traveling on area roads.  Community and road safety is our shared commitment and it starts with the actions and behaviours or every motorist that share our roadways.
