The number of travelers for the first eight months of 2017 was up by over 16%. As of August 2017, just over 174,000 travelers have come through the airport, compared to almost 150,000 in 2016.
The significant increase is due to a combination of factors. According to Todd Tripp, Greater Sudbury Airport CEO, "this substantial growth can be attributed to the air carriers meeting passenger demand through improved scheduling, a stronger focus on flight reliability, and the upsizing of aircraft for certain flights. Additionally, the introduction of WestJet to the Sudbury market has been extremely beneficial. We want to extend our gratitude to Air Canada, Porter Airlines, Bearskin Airlines, WestJet, and Sunwing for their exceptional service over the past year"
The Greater Sudbury Airport continues to work towards improving air travel options for visitors and residents of Northern Ontario. Providing more options for travelers means creating a competitive pricing environment and positions air travel as the preferred mode of transportation to and from Greater Sudbury, and surrounding communities.
