OPP respond to complaint of man wearing bullet proof vest with handgun

(ESPANOLA, ON) - Updated - Police identified the handgun as a pellet gun once the accused was taken into custody.

On July 31, 2023, shortly before 11:00 a.m., members of the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a call regarding a person who appeared to be wearing a bullet proof vest and in possession of a handgun at a local business.

Police were able to quickly locate this individual near Barber Street in Espanola and take them into custody.

There were no injuries reported.

As a result of the investigation, Robert BROLEY, 57-years-old from Espanola was charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

The accused was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sudbury on August 3, 2023.
