CANADA DAY – Road Closures and Traffic Disruptions

The Greater Sudbury Police Service Traffic Management Unit will be on patrol Canada Day regulating the safe traffic flow of pedestrian and vehicular traffic. Roadways around Bell Park, Science North, Health Sciences North and several intersecting streets will be monitored for prohibited parking.

Vehicles parked in prohibited areas, grassed areas, sidewalks or obstructing driveways and/or intersections will be ticketed and/or towed. The boat launch and access roads to the beach areas off Ramsey Lake Road will be monitored to ensure that vehicles are not blocking access routes. The boat launch parking lot is for vehicles with boats only and not for general parking and will be monitored for prohibited parking.

Access to Health Sciences North for emergency vehicles will monitored and maintained. Prohibited parkers will be ticketed and towed at the owner’s expense.

The Greater Sudbury Police Marine Unit assisted by the OPP will be patrolling Lake Ramsey checking for boaters that may be drinking and ensuring boaters do not operate their vessels within the drop zone during the fireworks. Marine officers will be also be on shore to ensure that boaters have all the required safety equipment on hand before going on the Lake. Please ensure that you check your equipment before leaving home. Refer to http://www.boatingsafety.gc.ca for further information.

Sudbury Transit will be providing shuttle rides to and from Science North from the Southridge Mall and the Downtown Bus Depot from 11:45 a.m. until after the Fireworks. The cost is $1.00 round trip. This means of transportation is encouraged due to the limited parking available and to discourage prohibited parking.
