Robbery Suspect and Accomplice Arrested

As a result of the ongoing Robberies in the Valley East area within the last couple weeks, the Greater Sudbury Police Service’s BEAR Unit was deployed and specifically tasked to oversee this location of the City. On the 14th of October 2014, at 7:50pm, a plain clothes officer conducting surveillance, observed a male enter the Forget Minimart, located at 4558 Elmview Street in Hanmer. The plain clothes officer found himself in close proximity and was able to observe this male conceal his face with a balaclava as he entered the store. Shortly thereafter, the suspect did exit the store still wearing his disguise and was now brandishing a large kitchen knife. Again, once outside and in a safe location, the suspect was arrested at gunpoint and found to be in possession of a quantity of cash taken during the hold up. With other plainclothes officers in the area and with the assistance of the K-9 Unit, the suspect’s accomplice who was waiting in the getaway car behind the Hanmer Mall, was located and arrested without incident. Further investigation by the BEAR Unit has determined that the suspect was responsible for the Robbery on the 4th of October 2014, at the One Stop Variety on Cote Street, in addition to the Robbery which occurred on the 9th of October 2014, at the Pioneer gas bar located on Highway 69 North.

The 42 year old female accomplice also stands charged with one count of Robbery.
