Two people rescued for Wahnapitae River near Wanup

(SUDBURY, ON) Greater Sudbury Fire and EMS were dispatched around 3:00pm October 30th, 2014 to a report of a boat overturned on the Wahnapitae River near Hwy. 69.

On arrival the two occupants were found safe in a residence. They had managed to swim to shore and were picked up by a passing motorist. (They were wearing life jackets.)  They had been attempting to cross the river in a small boat and were caught in the current which they could not overcome. They were swept down river and capsized.

The public is reminded to stay clear of the cold fast moving water with the recent heavy rainfalls.
