DRINKING WATER ADVISORY ISSUED FOR THE GOGAMA AREA

A train derailment this morning on the Canadian National main line just north of Gogama caused a leak of crude oil into the adjacent waterway.

As a precaution, the Sudbury & District Health Unit is advising that those who take their drinking water directly from Minisinakwa Lake, or from wells supplied by the river, not use that water for drinking or cooking until further notice. Residents obtaining their water from the Gogama Water System are not affected.

Potable water can be obtained at the Gogama Community Centre. Please bring disinfected containers to the Community Centre to carry the water.

Health Unit staff will continue to monitor the situation and will notify the public as soon as more information is known.

For more information, please call the Sudbury & District Health Unit at 705.522.9200, toll-free 1.866.522.9200 or visit www.sdhu.com.
