With high traffic volumes on our roads at the end of the work day, a Traffic Management Unit Officer was conducting speed enforcement on Municipal Road 80 in Sudbury at 5 P.M. on January 30th 2016.
During this time the officer observed a small sports car travelling well beyond the posted speed limit.
The officer, operating an unmarked police car obtained a speed of 121 km/h in the posted 60 km/h zone.
The 21 year old male driver was stopped and charged with stunt driving for exceeding the speed limit by more than 50 km/hr.
The driver was issued summons to attend Traffic Court, had his licence suspended for 7 days and lost the use of his vehicle for 7 days.
If convicted of stunt driving, a driver can receive the following penalties:
-Fines from $2,000 to $10,00
-The accumulation of six demerit points, a maximum licence suspension of two years for a first conviction and a maximum six months in jail.
-A driver licence suspension of up to 10 years for a second conviction within 10 years
