s in past years, some 20 Collège Notre-Dame (Sudbury) students dressed up for a Halloween dance held at Sudbury’s Pioneer Manor. In addition to helping residents to dress up for this special day, students escorted them to the commons room and danced with them. While certain residents watched the show with interest others danced. Without a doubt, residents and students shared a special moment and had a great deal of fun.

The Ministry of the Environment has advised the Sudbury & District Health Unit that results from samples taken October 23, 2014, from Long Lake are positive forblue-green algae (cyanobacteria). The samples contained a species of cyanobacteria that can produce toxins.

We recognize that there is some concern among some our readers regarding the respiratory illness known as Enterovirus (EV-D68). At this time of the year with many students returning to school there is always an increase in respiratory illnesses, especially in children. The Sudbury District Health Unit has however NOT reported any confirmed case of Enterovirus (EV-D68) in the Sudbury District.
As of late last week there have only been a handful of confirmed cases in Canada; 18 in Alberta, 3 in BC, and 4 cases in Ontario that CHEO confirmed did not result in intensive car treatment and from which all patients have made a complete recovery.
